Well the Blues kicked off the 2007/08 campaign with a 2-2 draw against the Mighty Reds (featuring Kurt). While it was evident that the return of Kurt in net proved to be a huge boost for the Reds, it should be noted that the Blues own goaltender did face 5 breakaways, and 4 two on 1 attempts…so the reds were not without their chances to put the game away.
The Blues season opened with a goal by Mike ‘Pacemaker’ Sullivan - who has set the pace indeed - at a goal a game. As of writing time, the Blues therefore find themselves in the middle of the pack, ironically enough, tied in the standings with the Reds. If we take this opportunity to glance further down the standings, we notice that the Greens have gotten off to quite a slow start, perhaps hungover from last years championship - and are in fact in last place. This leaves the Blues one point out of first, while the Greens will have to pass 5 teams on their way if they hope to end on top the standings. An uphill climb indeed.
Rookie sensation James ‘The Condor’ McCudden had an impressive first game, recording 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 PIM’s but 24 beers. Let’s hope he can build on this momentum, by increasing any of those figures for the next game.
And in other news, thanks to all who voted, it is official that ‘beer’ is the drink of choice for the Blues once again this year, narrowly edging out ‘chocolate milk’, and ‘White Wine’. So until further notice, please remember to bring ‘beer’ to the games from now on (and of course, lay off the chocolate milk). Thanks to Julian ‘Newlywed’ Holland for the ‘beer’ containers last week, they should come in handy for bringing my icewine, Beer.
